Dietary Customs:
- No Killing – of any sentient beings or using animal products like milk, eggs, feathers (similar to vegans)
- Alcohol – or any other intoxicants are forbidden because it could lead to the violation of the other precepts. Alcohol also is believed to cloud the mind and keep oneself from achieving enlightenment.
- Onions, Garlic, Scallions, Chives, Leeks, “the five pungent spices” are forbidden in some sects. They are said to lead to anger and passion.
